Berton have most of their plantings in the Riverina, but they have access to some Eden Valley fruit also. A sizeable, weighty bottle for the price too.
Berton Vineyards, Reserve Chardonnay, Eden Valley, 2015
Quite a heady nose: plenty of soft tropical yellow melon, just creamy Jersey caramel and ripe yellow stone fruit. Ripe and rich, this leans well towards fleshy peach and rock melon with oak spice. Finishes with sour lemon drop lollies. Feels a little out of kilter as the acidity seems held down and subdued, I’d rather see it cutting through and balancing the full fruit.
