In the capable hands of winemaker Sandrine Gimon, even the entry level “The Yearling” wines from Rymill, provide some excitement.
Rymill , The Yearling, Sauvignon Blanc, Coonawarra 2016
Potent green and tropical smells: Tart passion fruit, snapped young asparagus stalks, honeydew melon rind, herby dill and kaffir lime. Not exactly a pure bred Melbourne Cup winner, but no donkey either: light on its feet with plenty of light tropical/passion fruits and buzzy “Thirst Life Saver” acidity. Finishes steely and limey. Serve it up with flash fried chilli pepper calamari.
RRP: $15
Alc: 12.5%
