Entry level for Thommo’s Hunter Valley range in the reds..
Thomas Wines, Synergy Shiraz, Hunter Valley, 2014
The baby in the line up. A blend from across the excellent vineyards Thommo has access to: The central Dam block, selected parcels from the sprawling Sweetwater and little gems from the gnarled “blink and you miss it” Motel block. Spicy and evocative nose with blueberry and pepper. For me the Motel stands out: those old vine berries are tight-as-tight and packed with dark savoury flavour while the juiciness of the Sweetwater fruit gives the yin to the yang. It’s dusty, spicy and yet supple. The quality of the vintage not undone with oak. Has cellaring potential for 10 years, but better to drink this whilst waiting for the single vineyard 2014 wines to mature. Bargain.
