Rutherglen is the spiritual home of Durif in Australia, but Calabria steal a little bit of thunder from over the Murray River.
Calabria, Three Bridges, Durif, Riverina, 2014
Crushed blackberries, thick pencil shavings, prunes, dates, decent hits of cedar oak. Big chunky palate: rumbles alongs with plenty of sweet black plums, blackberry and dark cooking chocolate before absolute mouth coating tannins dominate and shut the fruit party down before an echo of spice.Well made and balanced, even for the now. Will reward few years in the cellar….or a plate full of char grilled meats.
