ZZ Top wrote a song called La Grange. Whilst I’ve tasted plenty of Penfolds Grange and have some in my cellar, I don’t tend to hear that song in my head when I see it written or spoken about. But for some reason, seeing or hearing the word Lagrein sets off that awesome riff and snare drum rim shots. Have mercy! A haw, haw, haw, haw…..
Bremerton, Special Release, Lagrein, Langhorne Creek 2014
Glass staining purple. Ripe and earthy perfume with fresh leather and a rusty/ferrous quality. Upfront fruit of sweet plums and brambly blackberry, before bittersweet dark chocolate and celery seed spice. Chewy, chewy tannins dominate the finish and cause the mouth to pucker dry. Unique for the big wine lovers and good value.
RRP: $24
Alc: 14.5%
