40 year old vines. 100% single vineyard. Whole bunch press with wild yeasts and some old oak fermentation. Jacob Stein (son of Robert and “Riesling Fanatic”) is proving that Riesling under his hand is a good as any in the land.
Robert Stein, Reserve Riesling, Mudgee, 2016
Mandarin-esque, lime preserve, lime juice, bittersweet pineapple core, macadamia oil, wet white river stones. Fills your mouth with flavour and just doesn’t stop. Lime and citrus dance juicily with a fortfying richness from the barrel work. The dry dry finish is all straight lines and teeth aching acid. This truly is a very good wine and will live a long time, but I think it’s such a complete experience now I’d encourage sharing.
