Vermentino hails from Sardinia where it is said the flavour of the sea is imparted into the grapes. Seppeltsfield is a long way from the ocean, but you couldn’t imagine not having crisp, fresh seafood with this wine
Seppeltsfield, Vermentino, Barossa, 2016
Pretty nose with plenty of jasmine floral notes, whipped cream, sea spray, pear slices and lemon drops. The palate is bone dry: nutty, salty, moreish and reminiscent of Seppeltsfield’s dry apera. The structure is almost like sparkling mineral water and creates a feeling of refreshment. One taste and I want big plates of grilled sardines, flash fried school prawns, sunshine and friends.
