Shingleback, Unedited, Shiraz, McLaren Vale, 2009

The weight of expectation of the wine is comparable to the weight of the bottle. Only just garnet at the edges in the glass with a dark heart. 15.5% alcohol brings lifted blackberry, cedar ash, sweet black plum, and blocks of chocolate. Heavy and serious complexity: mint flavours attempt to keep things fresh but it almost succumbs to the weight of thick dark fleshy fruit. McLaren Vale minerality still makes its presence known as a support act to the big show with more than a cameo of tongue coating micro tannins. Long term cellaring prospect or unbridled hedonistic joy.

RRP: NA ($79.95 for current 2014 release)
