Serafino in McLaren Vale: Benchmark cabernet but equally as successful with their Grenache and blends.
Serafino, Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro, McLaren Vale, 2015
Grenache is rightly seeing a resurgence as a grape: here it forms the mainstay of the blend. Dark berries with lighter red edges of strawberry, raspberry and creamy mocha aromas offset with just enough roast pan juice savouriness. Vibrant boysenberry, raspberry and that creamy oak. Well settled into its skin, this over delivers on flavour without being hot or fruit sweet. Gilt with McLaren Vale ferrous, iron fascia and fine tannin weave. Not a wine that will last long once opened.
