De Bortoli, Deen Vat Series No. 8, Shiraz, Riverina, 2014

Expectations firmly set aside, this provides a subtle nose of ripe cherry, plums, blackberry, cabbage rose petals and light chary oak.  Ripe, balanced fruit and the right amount of oak set this apart from many at the price point. Tannins are firm and there’s enough black pepper spice to ensure varietal spice. Great value.
