Hogs In The Woods, Tempranillo, Fleurieu Peninsula, 2016
Aromas of damp twiggy undergrowth with spent coffee grounds, jammy berry compote and furniture varnish. Super ripe front before sour and bitter flavours with hot, jarring acidity. Harsh tannins with a waxy feel. Not a wine to use as a gateway for other alternative varieties. I can’t help but think comparatively of this wine against some of the young Rioja wines I had late last year in Spain, and how some of the €5 manage wines trump this for pure drinkability.
