Whilst Brokenwood are based in the Hunter Valley, they access quality fruit from other regions. In this case, the majority of the grapes come from Beechworth in Victoria (49%) with New South Wales’ Orange (32%) Cowra (14%) and the Hunter itself with 5% seasoning. Some parcels made by wild ferment and French oak maturation.
Brokenwood, Chardonnay, SEA, 2016
The colour in the glass is an attractive, light flaxen yellow. Covers the spectrum of chardonnay with mealy notes, fruits of fig, yellow melon, grapefruit, a touch of nutty oak spice and some struck match sulfides. Tightly wrapped for the moment, there’s hints of fleshy peach stone fruit, fig and lime citrus. The wine has plenty of natural grip and texture, providing tension and poise. Fine acidity cuts through and the flavour finish is long and persistent. A quality chardonnay.
