Clare Halloran and Adam McCallum are quietly forging a Chardonnay dynasty at TarraWarra with a distinct house style that ensures a luxurious experience, no matter the price point. The TarraWarra website still has the excellent 2015 for sale, but the 2016 should be available via cellar door.
TarraWarra Estate, Chardonnay, Yarra Valley, 2016
The aromas are more savoury, citrus dominant than previous years soft stonefruit regime. They’re still there, but not as lush. Fig, almond and tobacco complement the fruit aromas. A firmly textured chardonnay, with fine grip and savoury characteristics. The oak treatment is sound and doesn’t interfere. Whilst there is still energy and class, this feels quiet and reserved…almost introverted.
