From the single vineyard collection by Polperro. The Talland Hill vineyard is set 170 metres above sea level and planted in 1992. Same winemaking as the Mill Hill Chardonnay with wild ferment and full malolactic fermentation. 12 months in barrel on gross lees before being racked to tank for 6 months on light lees. Bottled without fining or filtration. Bottled under Diam ‘cork.’
Polperro, Talland Hill, Chardonnay, Mornington Peninsula, 2016
Lighter and more fruit driven aromas than the Mill Hill. Greengage, honeycomb, beeswax, grapefruit, lime juice, butter, chamomile, white blossom, light bread crust and a stony quartz character. The palate wrapped tight: the fruit spectrum quiet and reticent with stony, limey restraint and a defiantly light toasty savoury complexion. Light, yet persistent grip carries long and cuts through a fine waxiness before a herbal coda.
