This edition carries plenty of Silver and Bronze awards from various international and local wine shows in 2016. Still the current release.
Shaw Vineyard Estate, Merlot, Canberra, 2014
Christmasy cedar/pine spice dominates easy black and red fruit aromas. Smooth and easy palate. The 4 years in bottle has allowed this to mellow. Soft, simple tannins give a day-bed cushion to blackberries and bramble. Cola-esque sweetness with dark soy/anise spice. Chary oak makes for a”burnt ends” meatiness that isn’t unattractive. It’s not going to rock your world, but it is well made. Crack it with a big big plate of sticky ribs and you’re set.
