Adam Wadewitz has been winemaker at Shaw and Smith for a few vintages now and while he’s been getting ridiculous amounts of accolades for his and the team’s work with their Tasmanian vineyard Tolpuddle, the S+S wines have never been better. The Sauvignon Blanc rightly should be held as a benchmark for the variety in Australia.
Shaw + Smith, Sauvignon Blanc, Adelaide Hills, 2018
Intense florals and all manner of lemon/lime citrus skin aromas while only the tiniest amount of passionfruit cream reminds you that it is Sauvignon Blanc. Nary a grassy note to be found. Pristine, focused and balanced. Softly, deftly textured with a not unpleasant powdery feel. An unmistakable pink grapefruit character sets this apart from many other insipid attempts. Exceptional.
