Canaiolo is an Italian grape primarily seen around the central parts of Italy where it is mainly used for blending in the renowned Chianti while only a handful of Australian producers grow the grape. Pizzini have just rolled to the 2016 vintage.
Pizzini, Canaiolo, King Valley, 2015
Dark garnet, near bruise purple in the glass. Full spectrum berry aromas lead to red cherry, a fresh earth and pouch tobacco influence with just picked leafy italian herbs. A soft, rounded palate with initial plumpness before yielding to firm, savoury tannins. Lingering garrigue herbs ensure a pleasant after-taste. Unique, and shall find further balance with medium term cellaring.
