While Pizzini specialise in Sangiovese, they’ve still some substantial plantings of Barbera.
Pizzini, Barbera, King Valley, 2016
A definite Australian take on Barbera from a colour perspective: the beautiful bruise purple opaque heart of the New World. Chocolate and blood plum with fresh cigarette tobacco herb spice and cassis underscore. The brightness and richness of Australian black/purple fruit takes centre stage of the full-medium bodied wine before the turn to drying, grippy tannin and distinct cherry finishes. That sharp spice is a welcome cut through alongside some urgent acidity. Medium term cellaring will not damage this wine, rather allow it to express all its being properly.
