Berton Vineyards, Metal Label, The White, Viognier, Riverina, 2019
Pale lemon hue. Nose of preserved lemon, lemon curd, honeysuckle and blossom, apricot kernel and fuzz with a green snow pea line. The texture feels dominated by slipperiness while trying very hard to keep things fresh. Plenty of shrill, citrusy acidity that’s not quite balanced against the natural depth of Viognier (which in this case feels like an anchor on a kite). Finishes with a clean flavour tail and still offers very good value.
