Rutherglen is the spiritual home of Durif in Australia, but Calabria Wines here steal a little bit of thunder from over the Murray River for their entry level  label.

Calabria, Richland, Durif, Riverina, 2019

Glowing, deep vermillion/garnet in colour. Earthy, twiggy blackberry, plum, grated chocolate and grated nutmeg spice, with savoury leather and black jelly bean. Carrying Durif signature expansive tannin, this still offers upfront appeal with a plush entry. Doesn’t carry too long through the tail, but then it’s not designed for that. Top value and perfect BBQ wine.
