When Yalumba call it Syrah: take note. Style is everything. Only the second release after 2019. Sourced from the Bartholomaeus family vineyard on the southern edge of Eden Valley (total is 9 acres) and affectionally as “Barty’s.” Comprised of unknown clones and planted in 1920. 32% whole bunch. Wild ferment. 15 months in old French oak. Winemaker is rockstar Kevin KG Glastonbury.
Yalumba, Eden Valley, Syrah, Barossa, 2021
Floral, seductive and spiced. Steeping cherries, purple flowers, musk, grated chocolate, green peppercorn and a touch of cedary oak. Smooth and silky palate. Opulent with being corpulent. Spice bites through dark flesh to create a piquancy to balance dark chocolate and red fruits. Tannins show elegance and class through a long finish.
