Pewsey Vale Prima 25GR Riesling 2022

The Germans have been mastering the art of residual sugar in Riesling for years, while Australia still suffers from “Oh, I don’t like Riesling, it’s too sweet.” And then you have wines like this that nod to the Germanic style and offer such balance. From vines planted in 1966 and made by the team at Yalumba and bearing Chief winemaker Louisa Rose’s signature on the back label.

Pewsey Prima 25GR

Pale with youthful green highlights. The sweetness apparent on the nose with hints of lychee, lime sorbet and guava under rosewater, talc and yellow apple. A touch of upfront viscosity giving a lovely slickness to the front, before a dry and piercing mid-palate, showing off talc and fleshy citrus fruit. The tail full again with the residual sugar but carries long with the fruit to balance. Not too cloying and would serve fruit based baked desserts or spiced chicken jungle curry as a fine cut through.

RRP: $30
Alc: 9.5%
