Amon-Ra by Ben Glaetzer 2021

The Eye of Horus stares out from the label of this wine and is known as the Egyptian symbol of “protection, royal power and good health.” From vines between 50 to 130 years old in the Ebenezer region of the Barossa. 16 months in 100% new oak (95% French and 5% American). Bottled unfiltered and under cork. Serious packaging for a serious wine.

Amon-Ra, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2021

amon_ra

Opaque ermine. Complex and ever changing nose: Flannel sheet, nori umami, meaty depth, decadent plum sauce, chocolate self saucing pudding, fruit cake spice, cedar and a hint of vanilla oak, gun smoke, cracked peppercorns and a little leather jacket. A little less opulent than previous years. There’s a savoury framework and a slight drying as the tail winds out. Structure and fine grained tannins for the moment, building for the future…..the distant future.

RRP: $100
Alc: 14.5%
