Winemaker Luke Steele is really hitting his straps after 4 vintages with Ross Hill. This Pinot Noir is a single vineyard selection from the Wallace Lane vineyard situated at 1020m above sea level along the Mount Canobolas ridge. With 30% whole bunch ferment and 9 months maturation in 40% new French oak.
Ross Hill, Pinnacle Series, Pinot Noir, Orange, 2022

Fragrant and lifted. Bitter orange and deep cherry, rose petals, some sweet oak heading towards vanilla, a green stalky lift, fresh truffle and a touch of salty charcuterie. Silky tannins float gently with ripe, bright red fruits and wrapped with that sweet oak. Just before falling into generic territory, redemption comes through the back end with earthy base, high citrus and focus. The whole bunch leaves the tannins with a nice chew.

Absolutely love all the recent stuff coming out of Ross Hill. Sounds like that Luke chap has a bit of a Midas touch when it comes to challenging cool climate wines.
Yes indeed Frank. Orange is in great hands with the likes of Luke Steele and Jono Mattick doing great things in the region.
