With fruit from the Geber family’s Vine Vale vineyard. Grapes for this wine are destemmed but not crushed, seven days on skins in open fermenters with regular hand plunging. Basket pressed before maturation in a combination of new and older French oak barrels for 18 months. Winemaker is Jeremy Ottawa.
Château Tanunda, The Château, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2021

Deep garnet to ruby hue. Plum and red currant with hints of blackberry pastille, buttered tea cake (fruit peel and spice), unwrapped chocolate bar, malt and a touch of black cherry. Full and broad shouldered with fleshy purple and red fruits. Tannins are drying and clinging. Alcohol feels a touch warm as a prickle but doesn’t detract too much from the intent and purpose. Gunshot ferrous echoes over red currant to close.
