With fruit taken from the Freeman vineyard in the Hilltops region. This is the big brother of the two “Hilltops Shiraz” range. A big drop in ABV for this release over the 2021. Note that at time of writing, the 2021 is still available on the Gundog Estate website.
Note: Bottle image has vintage 2021, but naught has changed save for the year stamp.
Gundog Estate, Hilltops Shiraz No.1, Hilltops, 2022

Medium garnet with bright ruby edges. Fragrant, yet calm: raspberry and cherry over blood plum, roast beetroot chips, white pepper, Belgian chocolates and a touch of umami fresh roadworks. Elegant and just mid-weight but with generosity of flavour. Prevalent sandy tannins underpin an easy red and dark berry fruit profile that is welcoming and approachable. Clean, almost minty fresh finish and a good persistence of flavour.
