Winemaker Steve Webber is now joined in the cellar by daughter Kate and young gun Jai Harrop (2nd generation winemaker from great lineage of Matt Harrop and Tamara Grischy). This one sees the Syrah (65%) and Gamay (35%) fermented separately in open vats. Some whole bunches in the ferment. Pressed off and racked to 500 litre casks for 3 months maturation. Capable for a little chill….
De Bortoli, La Bohème, Syrah, Gamay, Yarra Valley, 2024

Purple and red fun fruit with floral violet lilt, blue cooked meat, pink peppercorn, black cherry conserve, new sneakers and chicory. Darkly fruited and flowing with sharp tail. Mouth filling, plush flavour that finishes with an almost amaro, Fernet style of herbal echo and some waxy, stalky influenced tannin. Points for drinkability.
