From the single, close planted Sinapius vineyard in Pipers River. The Sinapius story is both sorrowful and joyous. The original two-hectare vineyard was purchased by Linda Morice and her late husband, Vaughn Dell, in 2005. They had a vision for the property from the outset of the right vines and the right vineyard management. Vaughn passed away suddenly in 2020, leaving Linda to craft and deliver the vision that she and Vaughn had 20 years ago.
This GV gets a good workout in the winery: “Crushed to press, naturally fermented and matured in 50% large format oak, 50% stainless steel on full lees. Full malolactic fermentation.”
Sinapius, Grüner Veltliner, Pipers River, Tasmania, 2024
Very pale lemon hue. Wonderful counterpoint of richness from the lees and oak to the inherent zesty citrus, green pear, floral and piquancy (arugula/rocket leaf pepper to almost a ginger tang) than GV can show. Showing structure and texture: the pleasant oomph and weight with razor sharp acidity and delicate etching through the tail. Lovely balance of quality fruit and thoughtful winemaking.
