Y Series now starts to have its own identity away from the ‘Yalumba’ apron stings, with production officially by Hill-Smith Family Estates. The eternal question is asked, can you get a real Pinot Noir for under $20? Wild ferment. Winemaker is Kiki Han.
Y Series, Pinot Noir, South Australia, 2024
Light rose petal, cherry juice, shaved chocolate, steel, young thyme leaf, strawberry tart, dried cranberry, spearmint and candied beetroot. Easy frame with good flesh, but enough savoury, meaty and earthy elements to remind you that it is Pinot Noir. A little singed citrus rind closes out the juicy (if a touch short) finish. It’s not the highest rating Pinot Noir on this site, but there’s ‘Pinosity’ and enjoyable for a glass or 2.
RRP: $15
Alc: 13.5%
