Gundog Estate Indomitus Rutilus 2023

Matt Burton has retained the 20% inclusion of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir from Dylan McMahon (ex-Seville Estate), Matt’s partner in crime for Burton McMahon. The 80% Shiraz comes from Canberra (Wallaroo Vineyard) of which half spent over a year on skins. Continues the LDR (light Dry Red) blend trend. I’m happy for it to stick around.

Gundog Estate, Indomitus Rutilus, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Canberra, Yarra Valley, 2023

Earthy and spiced. Candied beetroot, cherry and plum flesh. Peppercorns, Dutch licorice, ferrous steel, forest floor, hints of kitchen herbs and choc/orange. Silky and flowing. The tannins elegant and tight. Savouriness in duet with classy dark fruit. Elegant, with an inherent lightness and a juicy driving finish.
