Okay, here we have the younger sibling of the Flint Rock range and the heralded Great Southern Riesling. Grapes from Howard Park’s Great Southern vineyards at Mount Barker and Porongurup. Stainless steel ferment for purity. Nic Bowen is chief winemaker.
Howard Park, Flint Rock, Riesling, Great Southern, 2024
Pale, near clear in hue. White stones and fresh cotton wool cleanliness. More stones. Ozone. Freshness. White blossom and hint of honeysuckle richness, citrus zest, just opened marmalade jar, lime juice and suggestion of rose water. Bracing and fresh. There’s just a little appealing roundness to the front palate before chalky, bittersweet length and juiciness through the finish. Not quite the intensity of its siblings, but the pedigree is obvious: will cellar easily for a few years, but I’d be drinking now this while the exceptional Great Southern(s) age slowly.
