Xavier Goodridge gives his name to his eponymous label. MV6 Clone Pinot Noir fruit coming from the 1 hectare Avon Vineyard in Maffra, Gippsland planted in 1987. Hand picked and hand sorted before being ‘carefully’ destemmed into fermenters for 25 days. Pressed to French oak barriques (30% new) for 10 months maturation. Bottled under DIAM (wax dipped).
Xavier Wine, Avon, Pinot Noir, Gippsland, 2024
Soft garnet to ruby. Sumptuous and concentrated: black and maraschino cherries, raspberry, cranberry, dusty drinking chocolate, malt flakes, crushed autumn leaves, dirty quartz, kid glove leather, sweet licorice and hibiscus flowers. Focused and elegant with that red berry core wonderfully balanced by earthy, savoury spice and rigid straight spine. Some soft smoky oak gives a neat shadow over tight, firm tannins with zing of acidity. Class, elegance and life.
