Xavier Wine, Upper Yarra, Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley, 2024
Soft garnet to ruby. rich and full. Hints of umami soy, nori with deep cherry fruit, soft undergrowth, easy leather, choc mint biscuit, a little meaty dog fart, torn orange rind, choc buttons, raspberry crystals and thyme leaves. Fleshy, generous and broad shouldered to imposing. Gun flint, bittersweet cherry. Tannins tight and tucked in neat, with lingering leathery, meaty, umami echoes. It’s a little brash and up front, but the quality is evident and a fine focus and juicy finish.
