This sees the same winemaking as its sibling the Basket Press. Destemmed fruit with fermentation in 10 tonne static fermenters, with twice daily pump-overs. After ten days, the wine was pressed off into stainless steel tanks for malolactic fermentation. After MLF, the wine was transferred to oak (20% new) for 22 months maturation.
Craneford Wines, No.1 Limited Edition, Shiraz, Barossa, 2021
Deep garnet with a hint of purple on the rim. Sumptuous with a nori umami, cakes: chocolate and tea, fleshy plum, deep raspberry, cherry jam, green peppercorn and oak throwing in vanilla and mocha. Spiced and full, nearing opulent. Licorice and pepper punctuating that deep, intense fruit profile which is overflowing with cherry and raspberry. The tannins are fine, grainy and plentiful pushing through a long charry finish. Yep, there’s some lift from the alcohol, but it’s not out of place for the style. One for those who like their wines big and Barossan.
