Craneford have been around since 1978 and located in the heart of Barossa Valley in Truro and ‘honour the legacy of previous winemakers Carol Riebke and John Glaetzer. Winemaking sees destemmed berries fermented in 10 tonne fermenters with twice daily pump overs. After 10 days on skins the wine was pressed off into stainless steel tanks to complete malolactic fermentation. After MLF, the wine transferred for 22 months oak maturation (20% new).
Craneford Wines, Basket Pressed, Shiraz, Barossa, 2021
Deep garnet near opaque. Chunky and full Barossa. Plum jam, blackberry jus and berries, broken milk chocolate chunks, hints of formic acid, licorice all-sorts, spent coffee grounds, leather jacket and raspberry syrup. Supple, smooth and full. Fruit stays bright and alive. Tannins are fine and finely knit. Good length and persistence of flavour: dark berries and savoury umami. Plenty of charisma and will age well.
