This makes 7 releases without a price rise. I’m glad I’m not Ben’s accountant. Sourced from Ebenezer in the north of the Barossa and a shift in blend: 75% Shiraz (from 50-80 year old vines) and 25% Grenache (50 – 100 years old!). Winemaking stays the same: Shiraz matured for 16 months in 2-3 year old hogsheads (80% French and 20% American) while the Grenache had next to no oak treatment to retain the vitality of the fruit.
Wallace, Glaetzer wines, Shiraz, Grenache, Barossa Valley, 2022
Medium to full: Damson plum, dark chocolate with ferrous elements. Chunky and shiny fruit with anise/licorice edges. A little coconutty oak, spiced tea cake. Underlying rose petal and large strawberry slices from the Grenache lead to a drying finish with silky tannins. Bold, peppery finish that would equally match beef schnitzel with peppercorn sauce.
