Barbera isn’t quite the red grape you think of from a Coonawarra mainstay, but why not push the boat out (Gondolier, get it?).
Hollick Wines, The Gondolier, Barbera, Coonawarra, 2024
Deep garnet. Licorice, leather, road paving, baked and black cherry, strawberry husks, tobacco, rosewood and fresh paper. Medium bodied. Bright cherry and blueberry over herbed flowers and dried herbs. Crunchy acidity and fine tannins that underscore the wine, not dominate. Enjoyable to drink with your favourite tomato based pasta.
