Part of the “Breaking Ground” single vineyard wines series from Margan. Andrew Margan took “cuttings from the original Montrose vineyard in Mudgee that was planted by Carlo Corino from cuttings he bought (smuggled) from Italy in his suitcase!”
Margan, Barbera, Hunter Valley, 2014
Delicious perfume of spiced plum, dried stalky herbs, black cherry and blue meats. The American oak stands out a little on the front palate with a creamy/milky profile before plenty of sharp acidity cuts back through. Tart dark fruits play well with brighter red fruits. Tannins are firm and as you’d expect. For the moment this is elegant and has time on its side.
