Technically this is Montalto’s “entry” level wine, but the Pennon Hill range are well crafted by Simon Black.
Montalto, Pennon Hill, Pinot Noir, Mornington Peninsula, 2016
Attractive and bright garnet colour in the glass. Full aromas of warming raspberry, baked ham, red crayons, cherry danish with demerara sugar crystal tinges, fresh turned earth and fallen leaves. Broad, but still elegant: Raspberry, black cherry fruit with silky tannins and a cheesy/meaty complexity. Good amounts of earthy spice and lingering bitter orange. Plenty of pinot for your pennies.
