Margan Semillon 2017

Semillon. The Hunter Valley flagship grape. This one sourced from vineyards over 40 years old situated on the Fordwich Sill, a plug of red volcanic clay which runs through the unique soils of Broke Fordwich, in the North Western area of the Hunter.

This is where you realise that Semillon is still such an underrated grape in Australia. $20 RRP and made by award winning, outstanding winemakers from mature old vines. Tightly focused fruit profile with lemon, lime, pear and starfruit. The palate a little more coiled and restrained than the 2016 with salty lemon citrus, lemongrass and almost kaffir lime spice. There’s a hint of the toastiness that will fully develop should you want to lay this down, else enjoy now alongside flash fried school prawns.

RRP: $20
Alc: 12%
Rating: 17/20
