West Cape Howe, “Hannah’s Hill,” Cabernet, Malbec, Great Southern, 2016
Opens with plenty of blackberry and blackcurrant, some warm pencil shavings and brambly cassis. There’s a definite streak of sweet oak, but supports the overall package. The palate is full and a little less confected than the previous release. Smoky oak supports the black fruited heart of a smooth, gilded edged wine before a herby, mocha finish. The tannins are sandy, fine and plentiful. An easy to drink, well centered blend. Good value.
