Sourced from a single vineyard in the Leasingham sub-region of the Clare Valley. 25 days skin contact during the winemaking process. Old oak maturation. Gives more than a nod to Chianti Classico, sangiovese’s true home. Winemaker is Marnie Roberts.
Matriarch & Rogue, Pat, Sangiovese, Clare Valley, 2016
A fine garnet colour in the glass. Red fruit perfume of wild cherries and raspberries. Hints of cola, bramble and chalk. Mouthfeel is so right-on: textural and rich with elemental ferrous, spice driven highlights. It feels light on its feet, yet over delivers with layers of flavour, gauze-esque tannins and bright acidity. A quality new world sangiovese that isn’t afraid of its heritage and almost nails that x-factor that only Chianti has.
