A blend of Syrah, Merlot, Karasakiz, Grenache and Cabernet Franc. Parcels of fruit aged in barrel for 14 months. The fruit grown on the family estate Bozokbag, located on the Gallipoli Peninsula and brought into Australia by the Importer Opal Wines The wine sealed under cork.
Suvla Wines, SIR, Gallipoli Peninsula, 2011
Earthy, dense, developing aromas of licorice, cloves, dark berries and blue-cooked meats. Full bodied, with chewy, thick yet ropey tannins running through the same anise/licorice dominated palate. There’s solid, thick walls of black/purple fruit with yeasty tinges but the secondary elements are creeping through: umami and meat chunks. Unfortunately it feels laboured and somewhat of a chore to taste. Unsure if it was better in youth.
