The 2nd release of this label from the crazy kids at Clandestine Vineyards. Take Swan Valley Chenin Blanc and Frankland River Gewurztraminer, while apparently a little splash of Riesling was added to the blend this year. No filtration or fining and minimal sulphur on bottling. Drink up and early.
Clandestine Vineyards, Break Free, Petite Blancs, Western Australia, 2023
Soft straw yellow with a cloudy haze. Potent lychee and rosewater assault with saline, preserved lemon, white flowers, ginger spice, torn kaffir lime leaf (small, young leaves) and almond shortbread. Carrying weight and spice on the round palate, the bittersweet citrus flavours fall early with firm acidity that doesn’t quite zip or refresh. Reckon it could handle a chicken tagine or green curry and come into its own.
