Taylors Estate, Cabernet Sauvignon, Clare Valley, Limestone Coast, 2021
An intriguing nose for a ‘value’ wine. Tomato sugo, fresh brewed coffee, pulp mulberry, warm blackberry jus, Yellow Delicious apple flesh, campfire ash, pencil shavings, chocolate and a little ferrous steel. Medium full. Chocolate and purple to black berry fruit. Odd tartness (maybe where that apple note came from?) and some syrupy movement to the palate. Savoury olive and late blooming tannin temper the abundant globules of dark fruit. There’s a fair length to the tail and while there’s not a huge amount of complexity or counterplay, it’s a dark twist with enough interest.
