The Trevena vineyard is located on Hermitage Rd, between the Braemore vineyard (which has serviced Andrew Thomas and Peppertree so well), and Tyrrells HVD vineyard. How’s that for a Semsational roll call?
Brokenwood Trevena Vineyard Semillon, Hunter Valley 2012
All hand harvested, no oak and neutral yeast inoculation. Stainless steel ferment so as preserve the pristine juice.
Lemongrass, talc, lemon/lime pith, even a touch of frangipani florals. Under screw cap, the natural toasty aroma that aged semillon starts to develop is but a waft. Incredibly tight and precise, with puckering full lime/lemon (but not like a razor edge Riesling) that reinforces that this is Hunter Semillon and made for the distance. The purity of flavour is delectable and refreshing, the acidity ever so slightly tempered by the age. Very good example of a single vineyard Hunter Semillon.
