Ballabourneen Alexander The Great Shiraz 2014

So named after one of the founders of Ballabourneen, Alex Stuart OAM. Winemaker is Daniel Binet.

Ballabourneen, Alexander The Great, Shiraz, Hunter Valley 2014

From 30 year old Hunter Valley vines. First up is toasted oak. Followed by dark concentrated purple fruits, blocky black cherry and smoky leather. Not backwards in coming forwards: there’s trademark Hunter dusty tannin that hangs around well after the powerful serious dark fruits are done. The oak is sweet, then contrasting pencilled and a little marshmallowy. Living up to the namesake, this is dominant, powerful and probably better viewed with a little history under the belt.

RRP: $55

Alc: 14.5%
