The bottle signals the intent well before any juice is poured.
Kalleske, Eduard, Shiraz, Barossa Valley 2014
2 years maturation in oak. Bold, complex and unique nose with swathes of licorice and herbal tonic over black stones, deep plum, cool resin, braised Chinese 5 spice and roasting pan juices. Powerful yet thoughtful palate, with square layers of bittersweet licorice, jubes and deep sultana. The structure seems almost essence like for the moment, mixing with oak tannin. Dark, serious, this gives but small portent before the fruit profile becomes boxed in and closed off…sleeping, waiting to be wakened in some ten years’ time. Then this will emerge from the chrysalis and take flight.
