DeBortoli, Noble One, Botrytis Semillon, Riverina, 2014
Amber/caramel colour. Heady and layered rich apricot, lemon tart, burnt toffee, quince, brown spices and buttermilk. Perfectly balanced fruit sweetness and acidity, it’s like the ultimate ideal of what “apricot” tastes like. Add caramelised fig, creme brulee and a pecan nutty note too. The richness of flavour lasts for minutes and it’s almost impossible to not like this wine with its effortless depths of complexity. But what strikes me most is how it can be such a low price. Amazing value for an icon.
