This is the inaugural release of The Paper Nautilus wine from Nautilus Estate in Marlborough. Named after the Argonaut shells (Paper Nautilus) that are washed up on the beaches of the Marlborough Sounds
“For authorities whose hopes
are shaped by mercenaries?
Writers entrapped by
teatime fame and by
commuters’ comforts? Not for these
the paper nautilus
constructs her thin glass shell.“
- Marianne Moore
Nautilus Estate,The Paper Nautilus, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough 2015
“Hand picked fruit from a single site” and “fermented on solids at a warmer temperature in a large old French oak cuve.” A slight departure from your archetypical SB winemaking regime. Delicate aromas of lemon blossom, honeysuckle, passionfruit seeds, light tropical mango and a nutty oak influence. Such a textural departure from SB. With delicious lengths of smoky lemon and crisp nutty flavours, the balance is struck beautifully between quality nature (fruit) and nurture (winemaking) without any need for artifice. A beautiful wine.
